Three things I will do to get better in ELA teaching before I start teaching:

  1. Practice using the SmartBoard for interactive activities that are student friendly.
  2. Learning about the standards of the previous grade to better understand the level of content they have been exposed too.
  3. Practice forming lesson plans that are based from a book or a story.
remember at least 2 technologies

Lesson Plan:

Teacher:
Ambur-lynn Dumais
Grade level:
3
Name of lesson:
Sequence Writing
CCSS:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.3.3
Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events

Objective:
Students will create their own sequence story with at least one main character.
Assessment:
Typed final draft of sequence book created by student including at least one main character.
Materials:
Youtube access, version of a SMARTBoard
Initiation:
Show the students the video of the book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie"
https://youtu.be/Gyk55GYnGl0
Ask the students to identify the main character in the story, discuss this character's wants and actions based on those wants.
Create a T chart on the SMARTBoard for students to write the responses: one side will say "wants" and the other will say "action".
Lesson Development:
Students will work independently to create their own sequence stories with at least one main character, not a how-to book. Students will handwrite their sequence stories and revise this handwritten draft. Then the students will type their final drafts with the corrected errors on ChromeBooks. If there is extra time, the students may draw the images to go with their stories.
Closure:
The students will read the title and first two pages of their sequence stories and the class will offer one compliment and one helpful hint.
